Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital (affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University) was founded in 1904 as a Class III Grade A comprehensive teaching hospital with 1,766 authorized beds and a Lingang campus. In 1963, Professor Chen Zhongwei and colleagues performed the world's first successful replantation of a severed limb here, earning the hospital the title "Cradle of Limb Replantation in China"; in 1978, Professor Yu Zhongjia's hand or total-finger reconstruction technique ("Chinese Hand") won the National Invention Award First Class; and from 1958 the hospital pioneered ultrasound medicine in China, known as the "Birthplace of Chinese Ultrasound Diagnostics".
The hospital runs six national key clinical specialties — orthopedics, endocrinology & metabolism, ENT, medical imaging, sports medicine and emergency medicine — with orthopedics and endocrinology firmly in the national top 5 (Fudan ranking). Its orthopedics department is nationally influential in trauma, joints, spine and sports medicine; the sports medicine department is a national key specialty trusted by professional athletes and patients with sports injuries.
For international patients, Sixth People's is a powerhouse for orthopedics and sports injury care. MedBridge can help foreign patients book appointments with orthopedic and sports medicine specialists, provide medical record translation, imaging pre-review and accompanied visits — a regulated path to national-level orthopedic resources.
