China's respiratory and critical care medicine has developed rapidly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the experience of major public health events, the treatment system, workforce and technical level of respiratory critical care have been comprehensively improved, significantly enhancing the discipline's overall capacity and providing stronger protection for patients with various respiratory diseases.

Comprehensive improvement of disciplinary capacity

During the pandemic, China established a nationwide network for respiratory infectious disease surveillance and treatment. ICU construction and respiratory support technologies (such as non-invasive/invasive ventilation and ECMO) were rapidly popularized. The standardized construction of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) departments advanced steadily, and talent training systems continued to improve.

These capabilities not only serve infectious disease response but also benefit the standardized diagnosis and treatment of common respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and respiratory failure.

Main scope of treatment

This includes: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma, pulmonary infection, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism, sleep-disordered breathing, respiratory failure and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.

Significance for international patients

For international patients with chronic respiratory diseases or who need pulmonary function assessment and airway interventional treatment, Shanghai has many strong respiratory specialty institutions.

MedBridge services

MedBridge can connect international patients with respiratory specialty hospitals in Shanghai, providing medical record evaluation, expert appointment, interpretation accompaniment and long-term follow-up services.
