What is CAR-T cell therapy
CAR-T therapy is a personalized immunotherapy: doctors first collect T cells from the patient's blood, genetically engineer them in the laboratory to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) that recognizes tumor cells, and then infuse these engineered cells back into the patient, enabling them to precisely kill tumor cells.
Unlike traditional chemotherapy and radiotherapy, CAR-T treats the patient's own immune system. When successful, it often brings durable remission and even cure.
Clinical data and suitable patients
According to studies from multiple domestic centers, CAR-T has shown remarkable efficacy in relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and other hematologic malignancies. For patients who have not responded after multiple lines of treatment, CAR-T offers new hope. Currently the therapy mainly applies to hematologic malignancies, while exploration in solid tumors continues.
Treatment process and precautions
The CAR-T treatment process typically includes: patient evaluation and cell collection, ex-vivo cell manufacturing (about 2-3 weeks), conditioning chemotherapy, cell infusion and inpatient observation. Cytokine release syndrome and other adverse reactions may occur during treatment and require experienced medical teams for full management.
